In short
Sleep Weather has no accounts, no ads and no tracking cookies. We store as little as possible and nothing that identifies you.
Who runs this site
Sleep Weather (sleepweather.com) is a private, non-commercial project. You can reach us through the feedback form on the home page.
What we store when you vote
Your answer (1 to 5), the date, and your country, which we derive from your connection. To stop the same person voting many times we also store two scrambled codes (one-way hashes of your IP address and a random browser code). After two days they are replaced, so votes can no longer be linked to a network or device. Your IP address itself is never stored.
Tonight’s forecast
Our host, Cloudflare, tells us your approximate location (city level). We round it to about 50 km and use it once to ask Open-Meteo for the weather. We don’t store it.
Visit statistics
We count page views per day, page, language, country, referring website and device type (mobile, tablet or desktop). There’s no cookie and no identifier, so we can’t recognise you or follow you across visits. You can switch the counting off with “No statistics” in the notice at the bottom of the page.
Feedback messages
If you send a message, we store the text, its language and your country. Please don’t include personal details. We keep messages for up to two years.
On your device
We use your browser’s local storage, not cookies, for things the site needs: a random code to stop double votes, today’s answer, and whether you closed the notice. If you pick a language with the selector, we set one small cookie (sw_lang) so the home page opens in that language. None of this is shared or used for tracking.
Service providers
Cloudflare, Inc. hosts the site and the database. Weather comes from Open-Meteo, space weather from NOAA, public holidays from Nager.Date, and night activity from Wikimedia’s public statistics. Your browser only talks to sleepweather.com: fonts and code are served from our own domain.
Legal basis and your rights
We process this data based on our legitimate interest in running the service and preventing abuse (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)). Because we hold no data that identifies you, we usually can’t find “your” records. You can still contact us with any question, and you can complain to your data protection authority (in Hungary: NAIH).
